The purpose of the Armed Forces Covenant is to actively encourage support for the armed forces community, making it easier for service personnel, families, and veterans to receive help from the Ministry of Defence and charitable groups.
For more information about how you can support or be supported by the covenant, visit the covenant website.
We first signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant in 2015 before being proudly awarded Gold Employer Recognition accreditation in 2018.
The covenant highlights our commitment to recognising and valuing the skills and experience that members of the reserves and military veterans bring to our hospitals. As part of the updated covenant, we are:
- Increasing the number of paid leave days for reservists, cadets and spouse/partners
- Introducing a guaranteed interview scheme for the armed forces community
- Launching a new UHL Armed Forces Staff Network and exploring a joint network across LLR.
In 2018, we pledged to support Step into Health, a national initiative between the NHS and the Ministry of Defence, with the aim of supporting military veterans and their families into work as they leave the armed forces.
We encourage and support colleagues to join the armed forces as reservists or cadet volunteers and we work closely with local units. You can find information about local units on the East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (East Midlands RFCA) website.
