At UHL, we believe in providing the highest quality maternity care for you and your baby. We are always seeking feedback about our service as this helps us to continuously improve what we do and helps develop the services we provide for our patients and visitors.
We care for more than 11,000 women and their families each year and nine out of ten of our patients think that the care they receive from us is excellent, very good or good.
In April this year, the NHS will launch a major survey on experiences of using maternity services. If you give birth in February 2025, you may be invited to give feedback on the quality of care and support you received during your pregnancy, labour and birth, and after you and your baby went home.
Last year, we received 289 responses from the 731 of you who gave birth in February 2024. You told us what is working well and what we can improve. We listened to your feedback.
Your feedback informed important changes to your maternity experience, such as birthing partners staying overnight, access to more mental health resources in the antenatal period, more support from our infant feeding team and peer support volunteers, better information and continuity of care for induction of labour, and the development of a birth preference card for a personalised care plan; ‘My Maternity Journey’.
Danielle Burnett, UHL Director of Midwifery, said: “At UHL, we are committed to providing the best possible care to every parent and baby, and your feedback is vital to making this happen. While we recognise there are areas where we must improve, your voice is the most powerful tool we have to understand what we’re doing well and where we need to do better. The annual CQC Maternity Survey gives us a clear insight into your experiences, helping us shape services that truly meet the needs of families in our communities.
“By sharing your thoughts, you are playing a direct role in influencing the policies and practices that guide your care. Your feedback doesn’t just highlight areas for development—it inspires change and drives innovation, ensuring we deliver safe, compassionate, and personalised maternity care. If you are invited, I would encourage you to take part and help us continue to better meet the needs of everyone who uses our services – now and in the future.”
If you give birth in February, you will receive a letter with information on how to complete the survey online or on your phone. If you prefer to complete the survey on paper, a paper questionnaire will be sent in a later mailing.
Participation will not affect your care in any way. The survey is confidential, and your responses will not be shared with our staff.
The results will be published in Autumn 2025 and will be used by us to understand what you think of our maternity services and care. What we learn will help us to make improvements to provide the very best care for you and your baby and support our local community. Have your say and make a difference to local NHS maternity care.
