Germs can spread from person to person or from surface to person when people touch their eyes, nose, and mouth with unclean hands. Cleaning your hands can save lives and protect you, patients, families, and visitors from picking up germs and spreading them to others.
All UHL colleagues follow the WHO 5 Moments for hand hygiene which are:
- Before touching a patient
- Before clean/aseptic procedures
- After body fluid exposure risk
- After touching a patient
- After touching the patient surroundings
Hand hygiene is the simplest and most effective way to prevent illnesses from being spread around.
- Remember to wash your hands using soap and water after visiting the toilet, and before eating or handling food.
- Visit our handwashing sanitiser stations placed across our wards as well as patient and visitor areas.
