Adult Clinical Immunology is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) and Leicester GThe Adult Clinical Immunology Service investigates, diagnoses and manages conditions that affect the immune system. We support adults with suspected or confirmed immune deficiencies and provide ongoing specialist care.
The service is for adults living in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and Northern Northamptonshire. Clinics take place at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital. We operate Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
We help patients with a wide range of immune conditions, including:
- Antibody deficiencies, such as Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID)
- Secondary immune deficiencies
- Neutrophil disorders, including chronic granulomatous disease
- Complement disorders, including hereditary angioedema (HAE)
- Other primary immune deficiencies, including autoinflammatory diseases
- Our team provides long‑term specialist support, treatment and monitoring for people with immunodeficiency disorders
What we offer
- Specialist assessment and diagnosis of immune deficiencies
- Ongoing management and monitoring of immune conditions
- Outpatient clinics (telephone, video or face‑to‑face)
- Day case treatments, including intravenous immunoglobulin infusions
- Training in self‑administration of medications
- Transition support for young people moving from paediatric to adult services
- Liaison with other specialist teams when needed
- Support from specialist immunology nurses
Who can use this service
You can use this service if:
- You are an adult with suspected or confirmed immune deficiency
- You live in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland or Northern Northamptonshire
- You have been referred by a GP or hospital consultant
- We also support young people transferring from paediatric immunology services.
What to expect
At your first appointment, we will:
- Review your medical history
- Discuss your symptoms
- Carry out or arrange any necessary tests
- Explain your diagnosis and treatment options
Your ongoing care may include regular reviews, blood tests, day case treatments or support from specialist nurses.
If you are admitted to hospital for any reason, please let us know. We do not have inpatient beds, but we provide specialist advice to the team caring for you.
