Our Adult Allergy Services are provided across the Glenfield Hospital and the Leicester Royal Infirmary, offering comprehensive care for a wide range of allergic conditions.
We assess and manage all forms of allergy, including complex or unclear symptoms. Our team offers desensitisation therapy for venom allergies and severe hayfever, along with specialised antibody treatments for chronic hives (chronic spontaneous urticaria). We also provide advanced diagnostics for food and drug allergies and work closely with respiratory and dermatology teams to evaluate the role of allergy in asthma and eczema.
Many patients can be assessed and treated in a single visit. Complex cases are discussed weekly by our multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes. We aim to send all letters and results to both patients and GPs promptly. Initial consultations are usually face-to-face, with telephone appointments used routinely for follow-ups unless a face-to-face review is needed. You will be informed of your appointment format in advance and can express a preference.
Most referrals come via GPs and are reviewed by a consultant before an appointment is offered. We also accept referrals from hospital specialists and Emergency Departments.
We actively participate in research into allergy and asthma, working with the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre. You may be invited to take part in ongoing studies.
