Emergency care
Please keep our emergency department for those who need it. Unless your condition is life or limb threatening, please don’t just turn up at the Emergency Department. Please think pharmacist and NHS 111 first. If you do come and you don’t need to be there – you will be redirected to a more appropriate service for your needs. Find out more about alternative services to the Emergency Department.
The Emergency Department has separate adults’ and children’s entrances and waiting areas.
You can access the Adults’ Emergency Department from Aylestone Road. There is a drop-off zone outside the main entrance, or you can use the multi-storey car park on Havelock Street.
You can find information about the accessibility of different areas in the Emergency Department on the AccessAble website using the links below:

Research in the Emergency Department
The University of Leicester Emergency Medicine Academic Group (EMAG) is one of the largest emergency care research groups in the UK, encompassing both adult and paediatric emergency care.
Our research team is led by Professor Tim Coats. Research conducted within EMAG crosses the spectrum from bench research to clinical studies to implementation studies. The work divides into four main topic areas:
- Injury research
- Illness identification (including non-invasive monitoring)
- Paediatric emergency care
- Emergency interventions
