Our Sleep disorders service, based at the Leicester General Hospital, is one of the longest-established services of its kind in the UK and is recognised nationally for its clinical excellence. We diagnose and manage the full range of adult sleep disorders.
We offer both inpatient and outpatient investigations. For more complex cases, we have a dedicated three-bedroom sleep laboratory for overnight monitoring and daytime testing. However, most patients are assessed at home using a small, portable device that records sleep patterns and activity in the comfort of their usual environment.
Many of our patients are referred due to severe snoring, often linked to Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). If left untreated, OSA can cause excessive daytime sleepiness and increase the risk of serious health conditions such as high blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease.
We also treat a wide range of other sleep-related problems, including:
- Narcolepsy and other causes of excessive sleepiness
- Restless legs syndrome, which can cause disturbed sleep
- Insomnia, or difficulty falling or staying asleep
- Circadian rhythm disorders, where sleep occurs at the wrong times
- Parasomnias, such as sleepwalking, talking, shouting, or acting out dreams
Our expert team is here to help you get the restful, restorative sleep your body needs.
You can find details about the accessibility of the sleep service on the AccessAble website.
