The Transplant Laboratory is based at Leicester General Hospital and provides specialist testing to support kidney transplants at the Leicester Transplant Unit.
Our team offers a range of histocompatibility and immunogenetics services, including:
- Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) typing (to match donors and recipients)
- Cross-matching (to check for compatibility)
- Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) antibody identification
The lab also manages immunosuppressive drug monitoring, working with partner labs to process samples quickly and accurately. In addition to transplant support, we offer specialist genetic testing related to certain diseases and drug allergies.
We are proud to be a UKAS-accredited medical laboratory (No. 8100) and accredited by the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI No. 03-GB-010.990).
Joining the national transplant list
We help register and update patients on the national kidney transplant list, working closely with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT).
