Our women’s services are based in the Gynaecology Unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary and provide a full range of outpatient and inpatient services. The unit features dedicated operating theatres, a day ward, and a purpose-built assisted conception unit offering both NHS and self-funded fertility care.
Patient-centred surgical care
Thanks to advances in medical techniques, many gynaecological procedures can now be performed as day cases, meaning you’ll go home the same day. For treatments or investigations that require a longer stay, we offer a successful early discharge scheme, enabling some elements of your care to continue safely at home, reducing time spent in hospital.
Specialist gynaecology services
In addition to general gynaecology care, we offer a wide range of specialist services, including:
- One-stop menstrual disorders clinics – for efficient assessment and management in a single visit.
- One-stop post-menopausal bleeding clinics – for rapid investigation and diagnosis.
- Emergency gynaecology and early pregnancy assessment unit (EPAU) – providing urgent care and support during early pregnancy complications.
- Fertility services – including a comprehensive range of fertility investigations and treatments within our Assisted Conception Unit.
- Gynaecological oncology – a highly specialised multi-disciplinary team providing care before and after surgery. Dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialists offer ongoing support.
- Menopause services – offering evidence-based advice, treatment options, and access to nationally recognised research studies.
- Urogynaecology – a fast-track, one-stop service for women with lower urinary tract symptoms, prolapse, or incontinence. The team includes consultants, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, and diagnostic technicians.
Our integrated team is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care tailored to each woman’s individual needs.
