The Chaplaincy offers pastoral, spiritual, and religious support to patients, visitors, and staff of all faiths, beliefs, and worldviews – including those with non-religious beliefs.
Our team includes Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, and non-religious chaplains, supported by a wider group of trained volunteers from a diverse range of faith and belief backgrounds. We are here to support everyone, regardless of religion, belief, or identity.
In addition to our services within University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, we also provide chaplaincy support to Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust’s community and mental health hospitals.
Accessing chaplaincy support
If you would like support from someone of your own religion or belief and there isn’t a representative within our team, we will do our best to contact an appropriate person on your behalf. All members of the Chaplaincy are committed to working respectfully across different faiths, beliefs, and worldviews.
Our chaplains regularly visit wards and are always happy to offer a listening ear to patients, visitors, or colleagues. They are available to pray with patients or provide appropriate spiritual, religious, or non-religious support — especially in times of crisis or emergency.
If you would like to speak to a chaplain or arrange a visit, you can:
- Contact the Chaplaincy team directly (details below)
- Ask any member of hospital staff to make a referral on your behalf
To request a visit for a friend or relative in hospital, please contact the Chaplaincy service for the hospital where they are being treated. Their details will be passed to a suitable member of our team.
For urgent support at any time of the day or night, please ask a member of the nursing staff to contact the on-call chaplain. If a specific request is made — such as for a Roman Catholic priest — please let staff know the patient’s faith so we can respond appropriately.
