Established on 1 April 2009, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health, mental health, and adult social care services in England. It inspects services provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies, and voluntary organisations to ensure they meet essential standards of quality and safety – wherever care is delivered, from hospitals to care homes.
The CQC also champions the rights and interests of service users and has robust enforcement powers to drive improvements where needed.
