We are committed to creating a workplace where mental health is understood, respected, and supported. That’s why we signed the Mindful Employer Charter – a national initiative for employers who are positive about mental health and committed to improving workplace wellbeing.
What the Charter means to our colleagues
Signing the Charter reflects our dedication to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. We understand that:
- People with experience of mental ill health may face stigma or discrimination in recruitment, which can discourage them from applying.
- Some individuals are open about their experiences, while others may fear being judged.
- With the right support, people who have experienced mental health challenges can thrive in the workplace, just like anyone else.
Our commitment as a Mindful Employer
We actively work to:
- Promote a positive and enabling attitude toward applicants and employees with mental health issues.
- Include inclusive statements in our recruitment materials.
- Provide recruitment colleagues with information on mental health awareness, inclusive practices, and the Equality Act 2010.
- Assure applicants that disclosure of a mental health condition will be met with understanding, not discrimination.
- Avoid assumptions about an individual’s ability to manage workplace stress or attendance.
- Provide proactive, non-judgemental support to staff experiencing mental health issues.
- Ensure line managers receive guidance and training on supporting mental wellbeing in the workplace.
Why it matters
By signing the Charter, we are demonstrating a long-term commitment to the mental wellbeing of our workforce. We don’t claim to have all the answers, but we are actively building a culture of compassion, support, and fairness.
