Dr Minhas is an Honorary Consultant Stroke Physician at Leicester’s Hospitals and a Clinical Associate Professor of Stroke Medicine at the University of Leicester, carrying out research funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Leicester Biomedical Research Centre.
Jatinder carries out studies into the cardiovascular causes of stroke, and also tests and develops medical ‘tools’ that aid prognosis and improve patient recovery.
The UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship scheme will support Dr Minhas in his future work.
Dr Minhas said: “This award provides a fantastic opportunity to develop my team, gain further training in advanced imaging methods and ultimately deliver a hugely important study aimed at improving outcomes for those suffering brain bleeding.
“I am immensely grateful to the UKRI for funding this Fellowship and to my other funders – the Stroke Association (Senior Clinical Lectureship) and the NIHR Leicester BRC (Principal Investigator Infrastructure and Equipment Funding).
“Historically, less interest and funding has been apportioned to research into brain bleeding, despite the high morbidity and mortality. I am delighted the UKRI have recognised the importance of advancing knowledge in this field.”
