18 months after her second kidney transplant, Ellie visited the Sir Peter Bell Transplant Unit at the Glenfield Hospital, to thank the UHL colleagues who helped to give her a new lease of life.
Ellie, from Leicestershire, had to wait for four years for her second transplant. Now, free from dialysis and in good health, she is keen to raise awareness of how organ donation can transform lives, and to let other young people with kidney disease know that they are not alone.
Ellie, accompanied by her daughter Arla-Mae, spoke to colleagues including Transplant Nurse, Wendy Newell; Ward Sister, Precy Vega, and Consultant Nephrologist, Dr Jorge Jesus-Silva, all of whom stood out to her for their compassionate care during her time on the unit.
