Last week a special event was held at the Leicester General Hospital to mark its Pathway to Excellence® accreditation. The status makes UHL the only NHS trust in the UK to have two inpatient sites with Pathway accreditation. It also comes just over a year after the Glenfield Hospital (GH) became the seventh hospital in the UK to achieve this prestigious status.
The two hospitals are now recognised as outstanding places to work for nurses, registered nursing associates, and midwives.
Deputy Chief Nurse and Pathway to Excellence® Director, Sue Burton, said: “We are incredibly proud of our teams here at the Leicester General Hospital for achieving the Pathway to Excellence® accreditation. This recognition confirms that our colleagues are highly motivated, provide a positive practice environment, and are committed to providing excellent patient care. It’s been a pleasure to celebrate this achievement with them today”.
The Pathway to Excellence® programme is an internationally recognised standard awarded to organisations that demonstrate excellence in nursing practice, wellbeing, leadership, and professional development – all of which support the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
Achieving this accreditation required a rigorous process, including extensive evidence submission and high levels of colleague engagement. The ANCC commended UHL for high levels of colleague satisfaction, professional opportunities, and robust recognition and retention at LGH, all of which are vital for safe, high-quality patient care.
The event was a moment to thank all colleagues who have contributed to achieving this accreditation for their hard work.
