The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) has launched ‘Leicester Maternity Matters’, a brand-new educational podcast designed to give women and their families access to trusted information about pregnancy, birth and beyond.
The first episodes are available now on Spotify and cover a range of topics including assisted birth, vaccinations in pregnancy, changes in your baby’s movements and birth reflections.
The podcast has been developed in direct response to feedback from service users through the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP). Women told us they wanted more accessible ways of getting the information they might previously have received at face-to-face classes, which may not always be available due to capacity, venue availability and funding.
By providing information in audio format, families can listen at their leisure — whether commuting, exercising, or relaxing at home, and replay episodes whenever needed. This makes it easier for women and their partners to access information, helping them to feel more informed and confident as they prepare for birth and parenthood.
Each episode features UHL’s own health professionals — including, midwives, doctors and specialists — sharing clear, compassionate insights. “This podcast gives us a way to connect with women and their families outside the hospital walls,” said Lara Harrison-Myers, Quality Improvement Lead Midwife. “By listening, families can understand their options better and feel empowered to make informed decisions about their care.
“It’s also not just about expectant mothers; partners and wider family members can also benefit. Often, they want to be involved and supportive but don’t always know where to turn for reliable information. This podcast opens that door.”
The series is part of UHL’s ongoing commitment to ensuring women have a positive, informed experience throughout pregnancy and after birth.
Leicester Maternity Matters is now available on Spotify, with further episodes planned for release later this year.
