Crews from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service attended the Jarvis building at the Leicester Royal Infirmary at around 2am on Sunday 12 April following a report of a small fire outside the building.
A spokesperson for UHL, said: “A small fire was detected outside the Jarvis building at the Leicester Royal Infirmary in the early hours of Sunday morning. Crews from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Services quickly attended and contained the fire, and no one was harmed.
“While the damage and cause are being assessed, the fire did impact the electricity supply to the hospital, resulting in a temporary power outage. Back-up generators were in operation until mains power was safely restored.
“The hospital remains open, and teams are working to minimise any disruption to patients, visitors, and colleagues.
“We would like to thank our colleagues at the hospital, and partners from the fire, police and ambulance services, for their rapid actions.”
The road to the Balmoral building is currently closed beyond the Children’s Emergency Department, with diversions in place. Thank you for your understanding.
