Our diabetes care service is delivered in close partnership with local GPs to ensure patients across Leicestershire receive high-quality, consistent care. Following screening by their GP, patients are referred to our specialist diabetes centres and added to a central diabetes register to support ongoing monitoring and care.
Our expert multidisciplinary team includes consultant diabetologists, diabetes specialist nurses, dietitians, podiatrists, psychologists, and clinic support staff. We also work closely with related specialist services including paediatrics, obstetrics, and renal care.
We offer a comprehensive range of services through our dedicated diabetes clinics. This includes retinopathy screening to detect early signs of diabetes-related eye damage, and a specialist diabetic foot clinic. The foot clinic features a multidisciplinary team, including an orthotist who designs and fits bespoke footwear for patients with diabetes-related foot ulcers.
Leicester Diabetes Centre is based at the Leicester General Hospital, and is collaboration between the University of Leicester and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. Visit the Leicester Diabetes Centre website.
