Speech and language therapists (SLTs) provide treatment, support and care for adults who have difficulties with communication, or with eating, drinking and swallowing.
What we do:
The adult service provides a wide range of services across the three hospital sites within UHL including:
- Adult acute medical wards
- Neurology
- Acute stroke and stroke rehabilitation
- Brain injury and neuro rehabilitation
- Intensive Care Units
- Respiratory Support Unit
- Head and Neck Cancer
Our service includes:
- Specialist assessment
- Diagnosis and advice
- Targeted communication and swallowing therapy
The service is also able to offer objective swallowing assessment/diagnosis using both x-ray (videofluoroscopy) and endoscopic swallowing assessments (known as fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing or FEES) as indicated.
