Elective orthopaedics
The elective orthopaedics service at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust provides specialist outpatient care across the Leicester General Hospital, Glenfield Hospital, and local community hospitals.
Inpatient care is delivered across three dedicated orthopaedic wards at the Leicester General Hospital: Wards 14, 16 and 18. Some outpatient clinics and procedures are also carried out in partnership with the sports and exercise medicine department and through community hospitals.
Our department is staffed by over 40 Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons, each specialising in a key subspecialty area, including:

- Orthopaedic Oncology / Sarcoma

Trauma orthopaedics
The trauma orthopaedic service is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and serves patients across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, as well as referrals from Northamptonshire. Operating 24/7, 365 days a year, our trauma team manages a full range of orthopaedic injuries and emergencies.
The service includes:
- Dedicated femoral fragility fracture and spinal wards
- Specialist orthogeriatricians to manage complex medical needs of older patients
- A dedicated trauma theatre suite staffed by experienced orthopaedic professionals
Paediatric orthopaedics
Our paediatric orthopaedics team, based at Ward 19 and the Paediatric Day Case Unit at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, provides care for children of all ages. Conditions treated range from newborn clubfoot to sports injuries in adolescents, including arthroscopic surgery and congenital disorders.
