University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) has achieved a UK first, after being named as a Centre of Excellence by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI).
This prestigious international designation – which recognises the work of our allergy, immunology, asthma and severe asthma services, in collaboration with partners at the University of Leicester’s Department of Respiratory Sciences – has been earned by just 12 centres worldwide. UHL’s Centre of Excellence status was announced at the EAACI Congress 2025, held in Glasgow.
The EAACI is the primary source of expertise in Europe for all aspects of allergy. Its Quality Centres initiative brings together a network of outstanding institutions committed to advancing excellence in patient care, research and education. To gain the award, UHL’s team presented a panel of judges with robust evidence of excellence in research, multi-disciplinary team working, and a clear patient-focused approach.
The achievement builds on the services’ previous successes of gaining two accreditations – Improving Quality in Allergy Services, and Quality in Primary Immunodeficiency Services – both of which are run by the Royal College of Physicians.
Consultant Allergist at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Leyla Pur, said: “This recognition reflects the dedication, high standards, and collaboration that define our service.
“A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed, whether through application support, gathering evidence, attending the interview meeting, or continuing to deliver excellent clinical care, research, and education every day. We’re especially grateful for the support we received from our colleagues at the University of Leicester, whose partnership has been invaluable throughout this journey.
“We remain committed to upholding all our accreditations through continued hard work, collaboration and dedication.”
