We are the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust – an integrated provider of NHS services, supporting people in a range of settings, from hospital to home. Our vision is to be leading in healthcare and trusted in communities.
With a diverse population of 1.1 million across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and around 18,000 dedicated colleagues, we are one of the largest Trusts in the country, and the biggest employer in the region. We have been working in a formal arrangement with the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group since 2023, aiming to achieve greater benefit at scale for patients, colleagues and communities.
We are national specialists, delivering world-class heart and kidney care to over 2 million people across the UK. We are also one of the most research-active Trusts in the country, with 27,000 patients taking part in clinical trials last year. Home to an NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, the Hope Cancer Trials Centre, and Leicester Diabetes Centre, we lead innovative research in heart, lung, cancer, kidney, and diabetes care. From clinical trials to cutting edge technology and breakthroughs in everyday treatments, what we learn in Leicester today, saves lives here and across the world tomorrow.
As a significant teaching centre, we train the NHS workforce of the future, working alongside the University of Leicester, De Montfort University and Loughborough University to educate and inspire the next generation of doctors, nurses, midwives, and health professionals. We aspire to be a great place to work for all, with over 18,000 colleagues representing over 140 nationalities, proudly reflecting the strength and diversity of the communities we serve.
You will find us at three large acute hospitals – the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Glenfield Hospital, and the Leicester General Hospital – along with seven community sites. We also care for people in their own homes, and increasingly in virtual settings. We work with many partners – local, regional, and national – and value our deepening relationships with patient and community groups, whose insight and experience helps us to continuously improve the care we provide.
We are compassionate. We are proud. We are inclusive. We are one team.
We are UHL.
