University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust’s (UHL) TrustMed Pharmacy has been named Hospital Pharmacy of the Year at the Pharmacy Business Awards 2025, recognising the team’s outstanding commitment to patient care, innovation, and service improvement.
The Pharmacy Business Awards celebrate excellence across the pharmacy sector, with nominations from hospital and community pharmacies across the country. TrustMed’s national recognition highlights the dedication of its staff and the significant progress made in improving pharmacy services at UHL.
Since opening in 2017, TrustMed Pharmacy has dispensed all outpatient prescriptions for UHL, supporting around 100,000 patients each year through face-to-face and home delivery services.
Philip Kielthy, Superintendent Pharmacist at TrustMed Pharmacy, said: “Our pharmacy services are central to how we care for patients at UHL. At TrustMed, we’ve focused on creating an environment where every member of the team can contribute to delivering safe, efficient and compassionate care. From pharmacists and technicians to support staff, everyone plays an important role in ensuring our patients receive the best possible experience.
“The progress we’ve made over the past few years – from reducing waiting times to modernising our facilities – shows what can be achieved when we work together with a shared purpose. Being recognised nationally as Hospital Pharmacy of the Year reflects the hard work, dedication and teamwork of our colleagues across TrustMed and UHL. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together.”
Over the last year, TrustMed has opened two newly refurbished pharmacies at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and the Leicester General Hospital, with renovation work at the Glenfield Hospital due to begin later this month. Alongside these improvements, changes to dispensing processes have led to a major reduction in waiting times, with over 90% of patients now receiving their prescriptions within 25 minutes, compared with 58% two years ago.
