Teams and individuals from across the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) were celebrated at the annual UHL Recognition Awards on Friday 2 October.
This year saw a record-breaking 900 nominations, highlighting the breadth of exceptional work happening across UHL. From these nominations, 19 teams and 43 individuals were shortlisted, with the winners announced at a ceremony at the Athena in Leicester.
A panel of internal and external judges selected the winners for their dedication, innovation and unwavering commitment. Among those recognised were a volunteer who supports patients at the end of life, a security officer who regularly goes the extra mile, an exceptional trainee cardiac physiologist, and a team helping some of our most vulnerable patients return home the same day, alongside many other deserving winners.
One of the winners was Andrew Chamberlin, Security Officer. Speaking at the awards, he said: “To be honoured like this means the world to me. Being nominated was incredible, but to win has made this a night that will remain with me for the rest of my life”
Richard Mitchell, UHL’s Chief Executive, said: “The Recognition Awards are always a special opportunity to celebrate the people who make UHL what it is. Every day, colleagues across our hospitals and services go above and beyond for our patients, for one another and for the communities we serve.
“What makes these awards so important is the opportunity to hear some of those stories and recognise the skill, compassion, teamwork and determination behind them. I am incredibly proud of everyone who was nominated or shortlisted this year, and of our winners. Their achievements are a reflection of the outstanding people we have across UHL, and I want to thank all of our colleagues for the difference they make every day.”
The UHL Recognition Awards 2026 were made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors including NTT Data, Cepheid, Softcat, Charles Henry & Sons, Steris, Cubiquity and Ambu.
