Our hospitals are busy environments, and you may be moved between different wards or departments during your stay. To help keep your belongings safe and manageable, we recommend bringing only essential items. The following will help make your stay more comfortable:
Do bring with you
- Any medication you are currently taking
- Comfortable clothes for day and night, including socks, well-fitting shoes or slippers, and suitable clothes for going home
- Toiletries such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a small towel
- Glasses and hearing aids, if needed – please label them with your name
- Dentures if required, ideally in a labelled container (we can provide one on request)
Do not bring with you
- Large amounts of money
- Valuable or sentimental items
Please keep personal belongings to a minimum, as storage space on our wards is limited. We recommend bringing only a small suitcase or holdall to ensure your items can be safely and conveniently stored during your stay.
Personal property disclaimer
Please be aware that University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and its staff cannot accept responsibility for the personal belongings of patients or visitors brought onto Trust premises.
We understand that essential personal items such as glasses and hearing aids are often needed during a hospital stay, and staff will take reasonable care to help keep these items safe. However, we strongly advise that:
- Valuable or sentimental items are not brought into hospital or are sent home with a friend or family member.
- Any expensive items that must be brought in are covered by your own home or contents insurance against loss, theft, or damage.
- The Trust is not liable for the loss or damage of any personal property unless the item has been formally handed over to staff for safekeeping and a receipt has been issued.
If you have any questions, please speak to the nurse or midwife in charge of your care.
