A new Chief Digital Information Officer has been appointed to provide world-class digital services at the University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) and the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group (comprised of Kettering General Hospital and Northampton General Hospital). Group Chief Digital Information Officer, Will Monaghan, will become the formal partnership’s first shared appointment when he starts in the summer. He will lead work to transform care for the 2.2 million people served by the Trusts through better use of digital, data and technology.
Will said: “I am thrilled to be joining the teams at UHL and UHN. We have a real opportunity to make a difference at scale, building on our shared strengths. A key priority is ensuring our organisations are great places to work, which we know leads to improved care for patients. We will provide colleagues with the right digital tools and high-quality data to make informed decisions. It is also vital that technology works for the people using it, and I will lead our joint approach to ensuring users are at the heart of decision-making.”

One of Will’s first areas of focus will be to develop a strategic plan for bringing industry-leading technologies into UHL and UHN. Will joins the collaborative from University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) where he is Executive Chief Digital Information Officer. Prior to his role at UHDB, Will has formerly held roles at NHS England, where he worked as Transition Director and Director of Operations in NHS Transformation, and has more than 14 years of NHS experience across NHS England, NHSX and acute Trusts, including UHL. Will is also part of the faculty for the NHS Digital Academy as a Leading Digital Health Practitioner, where he lectures on a number of modules and provides curriculum advice.
