Diagnostic tests can give a more definite answer about certain genetic or chromosomal conditions. These tests involve taking a small sample using a fine needle:
- Chorionic villus sampling (CVS): from the placenta (from 11 weeks)
- Amniocentesis: from the fluid around the baby (from 15 weeks)
These tests are usually offered if there is a higher chance of a condition based on screening results or scan findings. Your doctor or midwife will explain the risks and benefits so you can make an informed choice.
